Summer Makeup Routine

While I was on holidays, I created a very simple make-up routine that worked well with my daily activities. I was going to the beach every day, and since I don’t have the clearest complexion, I needed to use something to cover up my blemishes. I also wanted to go for something light during the times I wasn’t swimming or at the beach, so I used a few base products and added on a small number of other make-up products to build up the look, depending on the occasion.

So the first essential was a BB Cream. I alternated between 2 BB creams, the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream (my all-time favourite) and a BB Cream from Greece from the brand Carroten. What I love about both of these products is that they both contain SPF, however, I made sure to start with a base of sunscreen to have added protection from the harmful UV rays. During the day, I opted for the Carroten BB Cream as it can look a bit greasy, however, for the night time, I used the Maybelline BB Cream as well as a little bit of concealer on any more-noticeable blemishes.

One of my all-time favourite beauty tools is an eye-lash curler, and I used this everyday. I don’t like to wear mascara to the beach, but on some mornings we would go out of coffee first and I wanted to look nice, so I opted for a waterproof formula. Maybelline’s The Rocket Mascara was my go-to during the day because I knew that if we decided to go to the beach, I wouldn’t have to worry about any smudging. At night, however, I chose a lengthening non-waterproof formula by Elizabeth Arden (Ceramide Las Extending Treatment Mascara: Black), which is my go-to mascara at the moment (I love it!), and which had a more dramatic feel.

For my lips, I wanted to add some extra colour, but I wanted it to look really natural. So, what I did was use my Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Crayon/Tint in Honey by dabbing it softly on my lips for a really natural look. I then topped it off with a few dabs of Maybelline’s Baby Lips Lip Balm. It looks much more natural when it is dabbed on the lips than swiped on, and gives the lips a really dewy look.

You can’t forget about the eyebrows! I kept mine really simple – all I did was just brush them into shape with an eyebrow brush as part of my make-up routine.

To amp up my look at night, all I did was use a white/golden eyeshadow under my eyebrows and on my inner eyelids to make my eyes look more open and awake. I also used Benefit’s Dandelion gloss on my lips to give them a more shiny look, and used brown eyeliner along my upper lashline for a more dramatic feel, however it still looked quite simple and natural.

I also always made sure to moisturise, and this helped to keep my skin looking dewy and prevented any peeling or dryness from occurring. I used the Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturiser.

This summer make-up routine took me about 5-10 minutes to complete in the morning and around 10-15 minutes at night. It is very quick and simple, looks natural, feels light on the skin, and lasted most of the day for me. If I had the chance, I would touch up my skin by reapplying a light layer of BB Cream, and I would be good to go for the rest of the day.
